Written Communication Showcase
As a communication studies major I have taken multiple classes where I have developed and proven my written communicative abilities. Some of these classes include but are not limited to; human communication research, rhetoric and society, and intercultural communication. These papers show my understanding and development of themes related to diversity and inclusion, intercultural communication, ethical and compliant research, rhetorical analysis, and intersectionality.
The Future Pastor's Wife
In this paper I conducted a rhetorical analysis of the development and evolution of my own gender identity for the class "communication and gender". This paper makes clear the level of knowledge which I have learned related to interpersonal communication and intersectionality as well as it's value.
An Analysis of Chinese Culture and Business Practices
This analysis was created throughout my time in my intercultural business communication class. This is a professional analysis of the differences in communication expectations and cultural realities that exist between the United States and China. This paper exemplifies the deep understanding I maintain in diversity and intercultural communication.Â
Bare Minimum Memorial: A Rhetorical Analysis of the University of Alabama’s Slave Cemetery Plaque
This paper was written for a rhetoric and society writing class with the goal of writing a critique of a rhetorical artifact related to public memory on UA’s historic campus. This assignment makes clear the dedication I have developed to furthering my understanding of rhetoric and propoganda.
Communication Highlights
As a communication studies major I have taken multiple classes where I have developed and proven my oral communication skills, these classes include but are not limited to; advanced public speaking, discourse of sport, Rhetoric and society, communication research, and Intercultural communication. These classes have had a massive impact on both the ways in which I see the world as well as the ways I interact with the world around me.Â
Professional Communication
Throughout the many business management and communication classes which I have taken in my time at the University of Alabama I have expanded and strengthened my professional communicative abilities. I plan to make use of these abilities throughout the course of my career. The lessons which I have learned have changed the way I view the world around me and the way in which I communicate in academic and professional areas. Some of the skills I have developed through these classes include: organizational skills, legal and compliance awareness, critical thinking, professional presentation, adaptability, and many more!
Intersectional Communication
While it was not my official concentration, I like to view intersectional communication as my central theme to every communication class I have taken. I view intersectionality as a guiding concept one must be aware of if they wish to better their communication in both their personal and professional lives. In my career with HR diversity and inclusion will be incredibly important for me to be aware of and work around, which makes intersectional communicative abilities valuable for my every day life. Some of the skills which I have developed through the many classes I have taken include: Diversity and equity compliance, multicultural adaptability, positive attitudes, cultural competence, allyship and advocacy and many more!Â
 Rhetorical Communication
In my journey to become a better, more efficient speaker, developing my rhetorical communication skills have proven invaluable to both my personal and professional life. In my career in the HR field, the ability to efficiently perform, decode, and encode information will be important for my success and day-to-day work life. Additionally, these skills provide me with the ability to pay attention to not just what is being spoken, but the true intention behind it. Some of the skills I have developed on this journey are: public speaking skills, confidence, strategic communication, rhetorical message awareness, and analytical abilities.
